Intellectual property rights play an enormously important part in modern society. Back in the old days, it may have been possible to run a successful business without knowing anything about intellectual property rights. Now, however, one has to have a basic understanding of them in order to be successful.
This is especially relevant if you are starting up your own business. You will need an internet domain name. Often it will also be a good idea to register your business name as a trade mark. In a number of situations, you can also gain a competitive advantage by focusing on whether the goods that you are going to produce and sell can, in themselves, be protected by an intellectual property right.
And finally, it is very important to make sure that your upcoming business does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others. Otherwise, things can go wrong very quickly. This book is written by my friend, Céleste Reumert Refn. It is aimed at non-lawyers and provides a general, popular introduction to a number of intellectual property law provisions. I think it is well written.
Indeed, in some respects it is even entertaining. For even though intellectual property rights are important, they don’t have to be boring. I have enjoyed the book very much and I am sure that you will find it very interesting. I recommend it warmly. And I warmly congratulate you, Céleste, on finishing the book.
